On Monday I took the last of my vacation time for the year off from work. In between a trip to the vet and a much anticipated lunch date with one of my girls, I made these sweet elf slippers from Maya*Made's tutorial. This project has been on my "things to make" list for a long time. I was thrilled to finally mark it off.
elf slippers
Instead of using a wool sweater, I used fleece from my stash. Fleece is so easy to work with, no fraying or slipping under my presser foot. The yo-yo embellishments were destined for another project that I never completed. Hair bows I think.
Maya's instructions were very easy to follow. It took a little time to make the first slipper, but once I understood the construction, the remaining slippers came together quickly. The girls were thrilled to find a Mama-made surprise waiting for them after school. To my surprise, my son liked them too and asked for a pair. I quickly obliged.
This next project is also a quick sew. It's from the pages of Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross.
patchwork-trimmed blanket
This would make a great gift for a baby or toddler. I used pre-cut charm squares for the trim which made piecing a breeze. In the book, Heather suggests using wool felt for the blanket but I used fleece from my stash again. It took me about a day to complete, however, that day included several breaks and interruptions.
